RME - Festival of Sukkot

We have been learning about the Jewish festival of Sukkot. This is a festival which celebrates 'in-gathering' and is very similar to our harvest celebrations.

Traditionally, Jewish families build a shelter in their garden to share special meals with family and friends. The roof of the shelter is made from natural timbers and leaves so that the families can see the stars and remember their ancestors. They decorate the shelter with citrus fruits and garlands and other harvest produce.

We decided to have a Sukkot Festival of our own. We built and decorated a shelter in the classroom.

We invited 2F to come and join our celebration and we had juice, biscuits and fruit. We even had a quiz to see how much we could all remember!

Primary 2F have a look at the Sukkot Shelter - I think they liked the 'fruits' we hung down

We made a harvest display too

Time for our feast!

We also played 'host' to Primary 1 and Primary 4 and even the headteacher, Mrs Miler came along to see our Sukkot Festival celebrations.

Here we are showing primary 1 our Sukkot shelter

Here we are showing Primary 4 our festival decorations
