International Education

We are working with Class 2F doing some work on International Education. We have got in touch with a school in Perth Australia and have sent an Orkney mascot to them.

This is Olaf we sent him to Australia to have a holiday. We put lots of stuff with him in the box that we posted. We sent things like shells, and a booklet about Orkney with Olaf.

Literacy - Verbs

We have been learning all about verbs this week. We know that a verb is an 'action'. As a challenge we worked in groups and we each had a role. We had a photographer, a time keeper, a leader and a scribe. We had 7 minutes to walk around the school and take as many pictures of verbs as we could find! We saw lots, here are some of them.

Here we are visiting the nursery and 'Reading' although it looks like Alfie is 'Sleeping'!

We found Ms Dennison 'Walking'!
Here is Christine 'Climbing'!

We saw Sarah 'throwing' a balloon
Here are Erlend and Cameron 'Peeping'!

Museum Trip

On Thursday 15th Novemner we joined 2F and went on a class trip to Tankerness House museum as part of our new project 'In the past'. We had a great time looking at all the old artefacts and discussing how different things are today!

We spent time looking at this old fashioned shop picking out all the things that are different from how shops look today. Look at the lovely old till!

Here we are standing in front of a display 'living room'. We noticed there was no T.V or games consoles!

We had a great day and we are going to write about our trip in our writing books this week.

RME - Festival of Sukkot

We have been learning about the Jewish festival of Sukkot. This is a festival which celebrates 'in-gathering' and is very similar to our harvest celebrations.

Traditionally, Jewish families build a shelter in their garden to share special meals with family and friends. The roof of the shelter is made from natural timbers and leaves so that the families can see the stars and remember their ancestors. They decorate the shelter with citrus fruits and garlands and other harvest produce.

We decided to have a Sukkot Festival of our own. We built and decorated a shelter in the classroom.

We invited 2F to come and join our celebration and we had juice, biscuits and fruit. We even had a quiz to see how much we could all remember!

Primary 2F have a look at the Sukkot Shelter - I think they liked the 'fruits' we hung down

We made a harvest display too

Time for our feast!

We also played 'host' to Primary 1 and Primary 4 and even the headteacher, Mrs Miler came along to see our Sukkot Festival celebrations.

Here we are showing primary 1 our Sukkot shelter

Here we are showing Primary 4 our festival decorations
